Am Donnerstag bin ich also hier angekommen. Natürlich gab es am
Anfang erst mal Schwierigkeiten mit meinem Zimmer und ich konnte
nicht sofort rein… Wie soll es sonst sein? :P Ich saß also am
Bahnhof und wusste nicht so recht, wohin, da es an französischen
Bahnhöfen wohl nicht mal Schließfächer gibt! Die Mädels vom
Empfang für internationale Studierende waren mir auch nicht wirklich
eine Hilfe… Aber dann hab ich im ESN Büro vorbei geschaut, und von
da an ging es Bergauf :) Die junge Dame dort ließ mich zunächst
dort verweilen und nahm mich später sogar mit in ihre WG, wo ich zur
Not auch übernachten hätte können. Dabei habe ich auch gleich die
Mitbewohner kennen gelernt, die mich am Ende sogar zu meiner Wohnung
eskortierten und mir bei meinem Gepäck halfen! Letztendlich bin ich
also doch noch gut angekommen.
Bisher kenne ich erst zwei meiner Mitbewohner, von denen einer jedoch
nicht sehr lange bleibt. Die andere ist immerhin Deutsche, ich höre
bekannte Laute! Ich bin gespannt, wer noch alles hier eintreffen
wird. Ein paar Franzosen wohnen wohl dauerhaft hier und sind nur im
Urlaub und der Rest scheint wohl großteils aus internationalen
Studenten zu bestehen – oder so ähnlich.
Am Freitag traf ich mich dann erst ein Mal mit meinem „Buddy“.
Sie ist Französin und studiert hier schon seit ein paar Jahren. Wir
haben eine Tour durch die Stadt gemacht und sie hat mir alles
Wichtige gezeigt. Das mit dem französisch Reden klappt auch
einigermaßen… Gestern bin ich dann mit einem anderen
internationalen Studenten auf den „Berg“ gestiegen, einen kleinen
Hügel mitten in Nancy, von dem man einen wunderschönen Blick über
die Stadt hat. Bei über 30°C ein ganz schönes Unterfangen!
Morgen geht mein Französischkurs los – in der Früh um 9! :o In
der Zwischenzeit versuche ich noch zu lernen und meine letzte
Hausarbeit für daheim zu schreiben… die Bibliotheken hier haben
leider für mich etwas ungewohnte Öffnungszeiten: Werktags von 8:00
bis 18:00/19:00 und Samstags sogar nur bis Mittag! (Zum Vergleich:
Die Unibibliothek Augsburg ist Mo.–Sa. bis Mitternacht begehbar.)
Naja, ich versuche das Beste draus zu machen.

On Thursday I arrived in this
beautiful city. Of
course, for a start, I had some problems with my room and I could not
move in… So I sat at the train station with all my luggage and did
not know what to do. French train stations do not even have lockers!
The girls who welcome the international students were not helpful at
all, so I went to the ESN office, and things were looking up :) The
young woman there let me stay in the office and in the evening she
took me to her shared flat, where I even had the possibility to stay
overnight. I also met her flatmates who, at the end, accompanied me
to my house and helped me carrying my luggage. So, finally, I reached
my room.
So far I only know two of my housemates, but I think one of them is
only staying for a few weeks. The other one is German, so I can hear
familiar sounds! I am curious who else will live here. I think there
are some French who live here permanently while the others appear to
be international students – or something like that.
On Friday I met my “Buddy”. She
is French and is studying here for a few years. We did a
walk through the city and she
showed me all the important things. Speaking French works passably
for me… Yesterday I met another international student and we
visited the “mountain”, a little hill in the middle of the city
where you have a great view above Nancy. Hard thing to do at more
than 30°C!
Tomorrow my French course will start
– at 9 am! :o In the meantime I am trying to learn and to write my
last term paper for my home university… the university libraries
have somewhat odd opening
hours: Weekdays 8 am to 6/7 pm and Saturday only until noon!
(Compared to the library of university of Augsburg: Open from Monday
to Saturday until midnight.)
Well, I am trying to make the best of it.
